Our mission is to provide a safe sensory stimulating environment that is therapeutic and fun for the whole family. We currently provide resources and services that include but are not limited to birthday parties, field trips for large groups, schools, and programs that work with children of all abilities, Summer Camp, and Open gym, open to the public, ages 2-10 years.
We provide transitional materials at no charge to families with children who need extra help adapting to changes in routine, long lines, appointments, and school or clinic help.
We provide awareness and education opportunities within the facility by sharing valuable information about sensory integration and sensory-friendly activities, socialization, kinesthetic learning, and tactile learning and how important it is for children of all abilities to stimulate their vestibular system, even more so when they have neurodivergence, such as autism or ADHD.
We offer two days per week for therapists to schedule private sessions with clients, allowing siblings and families to attend and observe, interact, and participate in the well-being of their child and the care they are receiving. We have materials and tools within the facility for these sessions. We have specialized equipment available for language building, motor control, tactile learning, pretend play, bouncing, and climbing.
Year-to-date our facility has accumulated roughly over 1500 hours of volunteer hours and growing, with gym attendance, community vendor events, community events at the facility, and working board commitments.
We have served nearly 500 ( roughly over 30 percent of all participants served have Autism or various other disabilities across various ethnicities (Asian, African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic), in Allen county (Fort Wayne), and surrounding cities (Williams, Warsaw, Huntington, New Haven, DeKalb, and other counties, across 3 States (Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio).
We are the only facility of this kind in the Northeast Region of Indiana that offers our unique services for children with disabilities.
Where did the vision of Sensory Awareness Education Outreach come from?
The inspiration for the business stemmed from a desire to provide a space that was sensory stimulating for the children I worked with within a local autism clinic. My own child was in need of a space like this when he was a child, much younger, but it did not exist. Sensory Fun & Playroom opened as a for-profit, but it became very difficult to find funding opportunities to support our efforts. That’s when we decided to turn our business into a nonprofit to assist with these opportunities. We wanted to be able to provide resources to the community at no charge, educate families, caregivers, and first responders. Born out of compassion and need, we aspired to make a difference.
I’ve always wanted to give the world to people as I believe most people deserve it. Unfortunately, some people are born at a disadvantage.
While the organization was born out of wanting to be a blessing. We knew that we wanted to bring a level of support to those in less fortunate situations. Our overall goal is to serve and make a difference to individuals with disabilities and their families.
Proverbs 3:27 reads, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” If it's within my power to give you what you want, I'm going to give it to you. This is the ultimate why for our nonprofit: to serve and to give.
Have these outreach efforts gone further than this organization?
Yes! We were able to acquire enough proceeds to serve 96 meals for a local organization that feeds the homeless. We have partnered with another nonprofit, The Journey, that serves at-risk adolescents and young adults. We have also worked with Boys and Girls Club, Easterseals, BrightPoint, and various other facilities and programs that serve young children.
It is a continued effort to open our doors to those who benefit from this environment.
